Who are Cornish Accredited Restaurants?
Fifteen years ago, Cornish Accredited Restaurants published its first List and I am delighted to bring you the new edition.
The idea is simple: restaurants, pubs and hotels in the county, apply to be Members of the Association following being successfully inspected by our catering professionals. Our Inspectors are looking for a quality ‘Cornish Dining Experience’ taking into account
- Local quality sourcing
- Freshness of skilled preparation
- Value for money within its sector
- Customer expectations & service standards
- If establishments wish to participate in the scheme, then an anonymous inspection takes place. Only if successful, can the business join the Association, paying an annual subscription to cover the cost of marketing. To keep everyone on their toes, spot checks are made on members across the year to ensure its credibility.
So, what's new?
Since our first List hit the streets, a monumental amount has changed on the Cornish food scene, most of it for the better! One thing that has immeasurably improved is the availability of quality locally produced dairy, meat, and vegetables to add to the superlative & abundant fish.
Cornwall now produces dozens of different cheeses of great quality and diversity. Many of our members use small farms and specialist growers for fresh supplies – in the ground this morning, on your plate this evening. This move to local purchasing has environmental and social benefits, which assist in the sustainability of our economy. The greatest benefit however, is that you, the consumer, knows that you are getting the best of the region’s produce on your plate.
This year’s list has 4 new entries alongside many long serving members and we rely as much on your feedback as on our own local knowledge for information on changes in the market. Please do get in touch with the secretary if you would like to suggest an eating establishment that you think would be suitable for inclusion in the list.
We hope you enjoy using this List to sample the best that Cornwall has to offer.
Best wishes
Mike Maguire
